CROPS AND ROBBERS

Here's a lightening up post. Just out this month is "Crops and Robbers" (Berkley; $7.99) by Paige Shelton. It's the third book in a series of "Farmers Market Mysteries," which are set in a small town, and so are full of colorful mayberry fried green tomatoes characters--and, it has a jams and jellies subtheme, which should appeal to the many fans of Dotty's CSA demo of this past season. (And, the book has recipes!)

From the jacket: Thanks to her delicious farm-made jams and preserves, Becca Robins's business has been booming. But when an unhappy customer turns up dead in Becca's kitchen, she's afraid it will really sour her reputation.

Who knew there was so much drama in a farmers' market? Publishers make good money publishing for niche audiences. If farmers market books sell (and this series does) can CSA-related fiction be far behind? It's probably just a short step to "The CSA Murders," a series filled with a colorful cast of community characters, with titles such as "The A Week, B Week Feud"; "The Worker Bee Who Didn't Show (She Didn't Even Call)"; "Worms in the Corn"; and "The Skull in the Swap Box." Not to mention a CSI/CSA crossover.
